The Metal Prep Utility Person supports PMI’s Metal Prep Department by unloading and organizing steel trucks, preparing staging for fabrication processes, and ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. This position plays a crucial role in daily shop operations by assisting with material flow, maintaining equipment areas.

The Metal Prep Utility Person supports PMI’s Metal Prep Department by unloading and organizing steel trucks, preparing staging for fabrication processes, and ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. This position plays a crucial role in daily shop operations by assisting with material flow, maintaining equipment areas.
Responsibilities:
Daily Material Handling & Shop Support
- Unload all incoming steel and stock trucks in the Metal Prep area.
- Ensure all stock steel, plates, and bundles are properly labeled.
- Organize steel stock in designated locations and maintain orderly staging for the saw and burn table.
- Operate shop equipment and material-handling tools safely and efficiently.
- Operate the press brake machine to bend, form, and shape steel parts as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop area by removing trash, cleaning equipment, and keeping workspaces clear.
- Lock back gates and secure designated access points daily.
- Assist with maintaining, cleaning, and inspecting machinery and shop equipment as needed.
- Operate the saw and other Metal Prep equipment as needed.
- Perform additional duties assigned by Metal Prep supervision.
- Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic shop operations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Read tape measures and ability to read blueprints.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage paperwork and material flow.
- Effective time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and material-handling equipment.

- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dusty environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to safely operate or work near power tools, hand tools, heavy equipment, and moving machinery.
- Ability to use vision to read instructions, identify hazards, and safely navigate work site; corrective lenses may be used.
- Must follow all PMI safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Must report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment concerns immediately.
