Basic Function: Responsible for providing nursing services to the students to further the ministry and mission of Bright Hope Learning Center.
Accountability Areas and Critical Tasks
Health Services for Children:
1. Assess health/medical needs and gather pertinent data of new and returning students.

Assess and treat appropriate health and/or medical needs of the children as they arise during the school day.

Administer medication and/or treatments as ordered by the child’s physician.

Administer over-the-counter medication with the signed approval of the parent/guardian.

Coordinate and assist with tube feeding for students requiring such.

Document all services given on treatment log, medication log, and in child’s record as appropriate.

Collaborate with classrooms and therapeutic staff concerning emergencies. If the child needs to be transported by ambulance, the school nurse may be called upon to accompany the child if a parent is not available.

Review along with the Director the immunization records of each student, making sure their record is up to date and signed by a physician.
Maintain OSHA Requirements:

Provide OSHA information to all new staff, emphasizing universal precautions.

Provide information on Hepatitis B, vaccination and opportunity to receive through Bright Hope Learning Center.

Maintain and update OSHA guidelines in coordination with supervisor.

Review OSHA guidelines annually with all staff members.

Maintain cleanliness of work areas – nurse’s office.
