Rachel's Challenge is a series of student-empowering programs and strategies that equip students and adults to combat bullying and allay feelings of isolation and despair by creating a culture of kindness and compassion. The programs are based on the writings and life of 17-year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999.
West Middle will be hosting Rachel’s Challenge on Wednesday, January 9. There will be three different programs on that day:
- An all-school assembly at West Middle for all 6th and 7th graders from 9 to 10 a.m.
- A team training at West Middle for 100 students and 10 staff members from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
- A Community Program, which is open to the public, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Collins High School
Ms. Stivers encourages the community to attend the evening session and asks parents “to begin talking with your student about this important student issue.”
