The local Diabetes Coalition and North Central District Health Department in Shelbyville will be will holding a Biggest Loser Contest for 8 weeks starting on February 3rd through March 24th. The group will meet every Tuesday at the North Central Health Department?s District office. The first meeting on Tuesday, February 3rd will be from 6:30-8 PM. Each week, participants will join in a voluntary weigh-in, goal setting, and nutrition education program. The nutrition program comes from the Kentucky Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (KDPCP) and will be tailored to the needs of the participants. This program will be facilitated by Licensed Dietitian, Amanda Stoess, from North Central Health Department and Community Organizer, Amanda Strecker, from Shelby KIPDA Rural Diabetes Coalition. Participation in the Biggest Loser Contest is free of charge and open to anyone 18 years and above with an interest in learning to manage their weight through nutrition education, exercise, and long-term health management. A minimum cash incentive of $100 from community donations will be rewarded to the participant with the most weight loss at the end of the 8 weeks.
