DESCRIPTION:Traditional Karate Tournament comes to Shelbyville\n\n \n\nLocal Black Belt Instructor brings tournament back to the community\n\n \n\nThe "Shelbyville Karate Do Invitational\," is being sponsored by Cable Shotokan Karate (a.k.a. Shelbyville Shotokan Karate Do) owned/operated by Mr. Kelly Cable.  The tournament will feature black belts and under black belt level students competing in several categories of events including traditional kobudo weapons\, kata\, and kumite (sparring).  \n\n \n\nTraditional Karate will make its debut appearance at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo\, Japan.  Men and Women will compete in kumite (sparring) and kata (forms).  The local tournament will allow spectators to view some of the same rules and events that will be\n\nfeatured in Japan. \n\n \n\nMany high-ranking masters will also be in attendance at the local tournament including\; Eighth Degree Black Belt Dwight Holley and Seventh Degree Black Belt Melvin Lewis.  \n\n \n\nThe event will take place at the gym of Shelby Christian Church (2375 Frankfort Road Shelbyville\, Ky) on May 18\, 2019.  Doors open at 9:00 a.m. with competition starting at 10:00 a.m.  The tournament is open to the public. Admission at the door is $ 5.00 for spectators\, children under 5 years of age are free.\n\n \n\nThis is a regional event of the Karate of Japan Federation in which Mr. Kelly Cable and his dojo are affiliated.  Mr. Cable teaches Traditional Shotokan Karate Do at 702 Washington Street in Shelbyville\, Kentucky. \n\n \n\nMr. Cable was the promoter of a national martial arts tournament that was held every February in Shelby County from 1990 until 2000.  It drew competitors from across the country and featured several national champions.  The Shelbyville Karate Do Invitational will become an\n\nannual event to held locally in Shelby County.
