KentuckianaWorks\, the Workforce Investment Board for the Greater Louisville\, which includes\, Bullitt\, Henry\, Jefferson\, Oldham\, Shelby\, Spencer and Trimble counties\, is offering a FREE three-week RAMP training that will prepare men and women to become long-distance moving van operators.  The three week training requires no costs to the candidate and pays a starting salary of $40\,000 a year with benefits.  The best new is that local moving and storage companies are ready to hire RAMP graduates!\n\n	\n\n	Those interested can sign up for one of the upcoming information sessions or go online to find out how to apply for the opportunity for free training to become a long-distance moving van driver. The next information sessions will be:\n\n	   Thursday\, Jan. 24 - Trimble County Library\, 35 Equity Dr.\, Bedford\, at 1 p.m.\n\n	   Wednesday\, Jan. 30 - JCTC Shelby County Campus\, 1361 Frankfort Rd.\, Shelbyville\, two sessions at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.\n\n	   Friday\, Feb. 8 - Southwest Library Branch\, 10375 Dixie Highway\, Louisville\, two sessions at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.\n\n	The federally funded free job training is a combination of classroom work and hands-on skills building designed in partnership with the American Moving and Storage association and Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC). The classes are held at the downtown Louisville JCTC campus.\n\n	 \n\n	The first class began in January. Classes are planned each month until this spring to fill the 250 moving van operator vacancies in this area.\n\n	 \n\n	Each graduate receives a Registered American Moving Professionals (RAMP) certification and four hours of college credit from Jefferson Community and Technical College. During the three-week course\, representatives from at least six local moving van companies participating in the RAMP program will meet with students to discuss employment opportunities upon graduation.\n\n	 \n\n	Moving van companies participating in the RAMP program with commitments to hiring graduates include: A. Arnold Moving\, Armstrong Relocation & Companies   United Van Lines\, Coleman American Moving Services\, J.K. Moving Services\, Margaret's Moving & Storage and Tri City Van & Storage.\n\n	 \n\n	Those who already have a commercial driver's license (CDL) and are accepted in the free RAMP training program will be ready for work at the end of the three weeks. Those approved to take the course without a CDL will receive a scholarship to earn the CDL at an approved driving school upon completion of the training. Getting a CDL after RAMP training takes an additional three to four weeks before qualifying for a job.\n\n	 \n\n	How to apply\n\n	The qualifications for becoming a RAMP student will be explained during the information sessions. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Military veterans\, husband-and-wife teams and anyone committed to teamwork\, providing good customer service\, and attention to details should explore becoming a moving van operator.\n\n	 \n\n	Applicants must complete a career assessment to see if they are suited to the work.
